EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT DESIGN WORKSHOP WITH PROF. ANDREW
Prof Andrew Charleson, an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture, Victoria University of Wellington, with expertise in architectural structures and seismic design visited the college and conducted a 7-day long workshop from 10th to 16th March on Seismic Design and use of RESIST software. RESIST enables very user-friendly conceptual or preliminary seismic structural designs. After introducing RESIST, he helped tutor students develop their designs and integrate the seismic-resisting structure indicated by RESIST.
The 3rd year and 4th year students who participated in the workshop benefitted immensely from the power- packed sessions.
Prof Andrew’s two most recent books are Seismic design for architects: outwitting the quake, Elsevier, 2008, and Structure as architecture; a source book for architects and structural engineers, 2nd edition, Routledge, 2015.
He has won a national tertiary teaching award in 2005.
